Message from the Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Richard Larkins
Excellence in research and education and great diversity in location, culture and people distinguish Monash as a leading Australian and proudly international university.
Since first admitting students in 1961, Monash has earned its place among Australia's prestigious Group of Eight universities with its dedication to the highest educational standards. We have more than 55,000 students from more than 130 countries at our 6 Australian campuses and our campuses in Malaysia and South Africa. Our students also benefit from our centre in Prato, Italy and our teaching and research partnerships around the globe.
Among the worldwide Monash community are over 225,000 alumni - our graduates - who are highly sought after by industry and the professions and whose achievements in such areas as law, medicine, commerce, government, engineering, arts and sciences are outstanding.
Over its history, Monash has built a strong international reputation in research and scholarship and made extraordinary contributions to fields including stem cell science, nanotechnology, environmental science, drug development and discovery, historical and cultural studies and road safety. The University's original Clayton campus is adjacent to Australia's first national synchrotron - a revolutionary scientific facility and a crucial tool for research scientists.
Monash attracts some of the most talented staff in the world and the University has research links with institutions throughout Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East. The recent rankings of universities in the Times Higher Education Supplement in the UK placed Monash among the top 50 universities in the world - an outstanding achievement for such a young university.
Monash is fully engaged in the communities in which it is located and with local schools, government and industry. Our campuses are vibrant centres for arts, sporting and community facilities that complement our daily pursuit of knowledge and learning.
Whether you are a young person contemplating university for the first time, a researcher or postgraduate looking to enhance your progress, or somebody wanting to do business with the university, I encourage you to explore our website.
You can visit our different campuses, browse through our extensive study programs that span the disciplines, and see our commitment to excellence, integrity and fairness in all we do. I hope your visit will be the first step towards joining our great Monash community.
